The Vineyard is a Christian Church and we believe in those basic doctrines that have been accepted by the Church everywhere for 2000 years, and which are based on the Bible (see 'Our Beliefs' below).

In Addition to our doctrines we hold onto 12 shared values. These define what is important to us as a local church and help us communicate who we are; they are also based on the Bible (see 'Our Values' below).

Our Beliefs

·        We believe in the one triune God who exists in three persons…the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit  (Matt 28:19)

·        We believe in the full humanity and deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his substitutional atonement, in his bodily resurrection, in his ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in his personal return in power and glory.    (John 1:14-18; II Corinthians 15:3-6; II Corinthians.5:21)

·        We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, who among his various ministries, regenerates, sanctifies, guides, and empowers through his gifts to all believers.   (I Corinthians 12:4-11; Galatians 5:16-23; Titus 3:5)

·        We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible word of God and that it is our guide for faith and practice.  (II Timothy 3:16-17)

·        We believe that all men and women are sinners and can only be justified by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a free gift of God  (Ephesians 2:1-10)

We believe in water baptism and an open communion table for all beleivers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

We believe in the resurrection of all men and women to a final judgment; eternal blessing for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked. (Matthew 25:31-46)

Our Values

We value the PURSUIT OF GOD - We are hungry to know God’s presence, hear His voice and follow hard after Him (Psalm 63:1-3).

We value CHRIST-LIKENESS - We desire to be people who would not just hear but also do the words and works of Christ.  We desire to be continually changing to be more like Jesus, so that more of His love, mercy, grace, truth, purity, power and integrity would shine through all that we are and do (Philippians 2:5; Ephesians 5:1-2; James 1:22).

We value being SPIRIT-LEAD - We honor Christ as our Head and seek to follow the Holy Spirit as our daily Counselor and Guide in our personal lives (Romans 8:11-14).

We value THE BIBLE as the inspired Word of God – As evangelical Christians, the Bible is our final Authority.   Our approach to life and ministry is shaped by the counsel of scripture (II Timothy 3:16-17).

We value PRAYER – We consider prayer essential, because it is our primary means of communion with God (I Thessalonians 5:16-18; Philippians 4:6).

We value RELATIONSHIPS – We see relationships with others as our highest priority after submission to God (Matthew 22:36-40).  We recognize that a sign of true believers is the love that we show others (I John 3:14; 4:8) - especially those we are closest to (Galatians 6:9-10).

We value EVANGELISM – Our intent is to reach those who don’t know Jesus; also, to teach all believers to believe Jesus’ words, obey His commands and do His work. (Matthew 28:18-20).

We Value DISCIPLESHIP -- We believe our job is to equip the body for the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-13).

We value SERVANT LEADERSHIP – We see leadership as a function, not a title.  We believe the Lord has placed significant leadership authority in the hands of the pastor and his associates, but that it must be exercised in servant-hood, with humility, selflessness, grace and true concern for the welfare of the family of God (I Peter 5:1-7).

We value SIMPLICITY – We want to be “naturally supernatural,” avoiding theatrics, melodrama, manipulation, coercion or pretense - “Real people serving a real God” abstaining from behavior that gives glory to ourselves - “it’s all about Jesus”         (I Corinthians 2:2-5; James 3:13; I Thessalonians 4:11-12).

We value being CULTURALLY CURRENT – We embrace change as the necessity of growth and Kingdom effectiveness (Luke 5:37-38).  We are called to be a force of spiritual revolution, not a stagnant institution. We embrace nonreligious styles of Bible teaching relevant to the times in which we live, and contemporary worship in the freedom of the Spirit. We encourage training in and use of modern technology and the art forms to advance the Kingdom of God (I Corinthians 9:20-23).

We value COMPASSION & MERCY – We believe that God has called us to be attentive to the needs of the poor, broken-hearted, and oppressed (Luke 4:18).  We believe that God would rather show us mercy than judgment (James 2:13; John 8:2-11).
